When I Leave My Body is built around Reynolds's signature propulsive rhythms and ethereal soundscapes enriched by Alex Stolze's keening violin lines. The vocal samples are from scientific researcher and writer Robert Monroe, whose 1971 book Journeys Out of the Body is where he coined the term out-of-body-experience. Having collaborated together in Solo Collective alongside cellist Anne Müller, Reynolds and Stolze have a near psychic connection in terms of music making, and the depth of their artistic synergy is laid bare by the dense layering and kinetic production of When I Leave My Body.
